Purple warning issued: 🌧️Rain🌧️19/10/2023 09:00 - 21/10/2023 09:00

As storm Babet develops and gradually moves northward on Thursday, strong southeasterly winds and persistent heavy rain will continue its northward advance. There is a very high chance of substantial rainfall accumulation in certain areas, particularly over elevated terrain, which will bring significant flooding in places. Many parts of Scotland and parts of Northern England are expected to experience 25-35 mm of rain within 24 hours in lower-lying areas, potentially reaching 40-60 mm within 24 hours in higher regions. The most severe conditions are anticipated in elevated areas of eastern Scotland, where 120-160 mm of rain is possible within 24 hours, potentially exceeding 250 mm within 3 days. This excessive rainfall could lead to significant local impacts, including damaging floods that might pose a danger to life.
